It was on day 3 last year when Auburn erased a 32 point deficit to Arizona and turned it into a 58 point lead with a stacked mile and an outstanding prelim effort across the board.
They have don’t have their milers that went for 1st and 2nd last year, and they don’t have any divers to score points this year either. Regardless of that, they still have a big third day, and might once again decide the meet in the fifth session. » Click to Read More!

I draw inspiration for this column from a lot of different places. Sometimes I pair a couple of topics together and somehow relate it to swimming. At times, it works. At times, it doesn’t. I’m winging this one and don’t know how it’s going to turn out, but bear with me. I am actually trying to make a point.
Yesterday, I bought a computer. A week or so prior, I was at Senior Sectionals which were held at our daily training pool. Two entirely different things, but with a little imagination, there’s some segments there that match up. If you think about it, building a swimmer is a lot like building a computer. » Click to Read More!

Day two can make or break any team’s chances of winning the team title, and that certainly applies to Arizona this weekend. This is their day to put Frank Busch in line to win his first national championship, but again, they need big swims from their low seeds. » Click to Read More!

It will be a two team meet for the Women’s NCAA DI championship, with Arizona at 18 swimmers and Auburn at 17 swimmers.
With a young team, Georgia’s 16 swimmers will most likely fall back to at least third, but teams like Florida and Stanford could also make this interesting. The depth of Auburn and Arizona will most likely trump them in the long run though.
Having a high number of swims at this meet certainly doesn’t mean success. It’s all about who shows up on the day of the meet. » Click to Read More!

I was going to wait until the first evening session to file anything on European Championships in Eindhoven, but with a few hours to go until the session begins swimming fans might as well have something to look forward to. And that something may be a new world record in the women’s 400 Free Relay. » Click to Read More!

After hearing some disturbing rumours, we decided to sit down today with one of the top B-list athlete/writers in our sport for five questions. What’s it like to live in the grey area between athlete and athletic supporter and how does he sleep at night having done it? All the answers to everything you did and didn’t want to know about David are here. » Click to Read More!

Jim Wilson of Australia’s Herald Sun reports…
“Hackett said there was overwhelming support for Sullivan after Hall’s drug slur against the Australian speed machine.
‘Surprise, surprise, look who’s opening his mouth again without any substance,’ Hackett said.”
Uhhhh…Grant Hackett? » Click to Read More!

I have always loved coaches. They are sacred to me. But it’s hard to explain without sharing my history.
My first coach was Eric Orders at the Gaston Y in North Carolina. He had a beard, like the Long John Silver’s fisherman, and only one arm. I remember liking him, despite his long, long speeches, and I remember his patience in spite of my six year old silliness and relentless energy.
When my family moved 40 miles east, to Charlotte, my mom coached me. I swam in a pool below a studio where they filmed the PTL Television Show, hosted by Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye. They were pass the plate TV-preachers and entertaining to watch. For some reason mom didn’t feel the same way. She said, “We’re here because of your daddy’s job,” and sneered, “The Bakker’s sure do raise lots of money.” I was eight and thought; they must’ve spent all that money on this pool. It was beautiful, like something out of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.” » Click to Read More!

I’ve been spending some time as of late trying figure out how I felt about this whole Gary Hall Jr. accusing, but not really accusing, Eamon Sullivan of steroid use.
Now I have never been a huge Gary Hall Jr. fan, but in my mind after these most recent “antics,” his level of awesomeness has risen to an unattainable level. » Click to Read More!

Up until this point, I really admired how the youthful Sullivan had handled the flap over the “drug slur”. He just blew it off, said it was disappointing, and said he had great respect for Gary, staying above the fray.
Alan Thompson and Grant Hackett defended Eamon by characterizing Gary as having “no credibility” (Thompson) and his comments being “irresponsible” (Hackett). Gary responded on today’s Deck Pass with strong words for both Thompson and Hackett. » Click to Read More!

Was there ever any doubt? Kenyon swimmers hoisted an NCAA team championship trophy in the sport of swimming for the 50th time tonight, a victory fueled by extraordinary team depth. It wasn’t always pretty, with Kenyon’s swimmers getting manhandled consistently in top heats by top guns from elsewhere, most notably Amherst’s Brittany Sasser and Kendra Stern who combined for five individual titles between them. » Click to Read More!
