Coach Accused Of Having Sex With Minor
32 year old Randy Nack was supposed to coach his first season of high school swimming this semester. Instead, the California water polo-turned-swim coach is on paid leave after police arrested him, accusing Nack of having sex with a minor.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Nack has been working at Escondido High School since 2004 where he taught art and coached both men’s and women’s water polo. Detectives are said to have been investigating Nack for more than a month now. The District Attorney’s office filed charges this week and Nack voluntarily turned himself in.
Understandably the article doesn’t provide any information on the victim, such as whether or not she was an athlete. Nack is currently on paid administrative leave.

My question is, why do they let male coaches anywhere near young girls? What kind of logic is this in this messed up world?

Well, I don’t think we can very well discriminate against an entire gender in coaching. Plenty of male coaches and teachers keep their hands off young women and keep it professional. Unfortunately, the select few who abuse their position of power give the rest a bad name.
At least they caught this guy before he DID coach swimming.

Women do it too. Have not you read about female teachers having sex relations with male students or female students?

I hate these arguments because they go nowhere really quickly. Using underreported data 1 in 4 women is sexually abused in this country. The tally for men is 1 in 10. You tell me you wouldn’t have the slightest reservation against having a male coach around your 7 year-old little girl.

I would not, providing he has a good reputation. These stories are few and far between. Of course it does not make it right in any sense of the word.
There are thousands and thousands of decent folks, male and female, that coach kids.
When an ugly story like this surfaces, it is always big news. Real big news. Only a very very small percentage of these people are freaks. Hopefully, they get caught asap.
BTW, I played just about every sport that was available to me as a kid. I never heard of anything like this going on.

5:42 PM 2/26/08: Channel 10 Columbus Ohio reports that Upper Arlington Swim Coach Kevin Chapman has been arrested for rape. They listed what the charges are but I didn’t catch all of it. They did state that the rape occurred 12 years ago on the school grounds.

Chapman’s attorney, Samuel B. Weiner, questioned why it took so long for the allegations to surface.
“I have some concerns with this recall,” Weiner said after the hearing. “I don’t know exactly what all of a sudden brought it to mind.”
!2 years later? hmmmmmmm
